How to bypass security switch in key on Buick Riviera?

Does anyone know how to bypass the security chip on a 96 Buick Riviera? My moms car will not start...the security light is flashing for some reason and the key won't start the car. Someone said that the security system is preventing the key from starting the car and we will have to bypass the pass-key by clipping some wires and attaching them somewhere else. Any ideas?|||Probably a broken wire to the VATS key switch, a common problem as they age due to extremely thin wires. A new key won't help, as it will have the SAME value as the one you have now. The 10 minute relearn does not apply here, VATS and PassLock are two different critters. Cutting or splicing anything is not a DIY solution for someone not familiar with the system. Have a locksmith take a look at it and discuss your options with you.|||i would try to lock and unlock the cars driver door with the key . then i would try to start the car the reset button is in the door the the system.i would not cut any thing at all .maybe buy a new key not from the dealer go to a lock smith will save you a lot of money and. yes lock smiths can program keys and they are a lot cheaper good luck.|||First, don't cut any wires. The car will probably never start again.

You need to have a dealer make you a new key. They only cost about $10. The new key will have a different resistor code. You will have to go through the "GM ten minute relearn" to make it work.
