Is it any purpose of the Buick Brand to be on General Motors if Cadillac is the Luxury brand?

OK, so I was wandering this for so many years and I came to the conclusion that Buick and Cadillac are suppose to be the "Luxury" brands on General Motors. So my question is, doesn't Motor company's have just one luxury brand? For example, Lexus is the luxury brand on Toyota, Lincoln is the Luxury brand on Ford, infinity is the luxury brand of Nissan, and Acura is the Luxury brand on Honda, so what is the deal with Buick if there is Cadillac? |||acura|||Buick is the largest seller in China. Buick is a key brand for GM is Asia an LAAM. Buick is NOT entirely the same as Cadillac. Buick is similar to chevy (Lacrosse=Impala)(Enclave=Trav鈥?

|||yes there is a pupose ...... its the poor mans cadillac......lol|||The Buick is what we as car dealers call the poor mans Cadillac. It virtually the same car at a lower price. General Motors has always been that way where the other companies have a consolidated line lower end and higher end, GM has a policy that it should have multiple brands for different incomes. As you can see the idea hasn't really worked like it did on paper.|||rich mans chevy...poor mans cadillac ack ack....over the last 100 years many new car co's have been started...GM bought many...Olds.Buick, Caddy etc...some go out of fashion some get stronger...if Buick stops selling...it will go like Olds did....but old retired folks like them so..|||Buick is the conservative luxury brand. Cadillac is the avante gard brand.
